Budding businesses and those looking for new growth may find the nurturing they need at the Beta Business Park's Spring Leadership in Business Conference.


Beta Business Park will host its second semi-annual gathering from April 24-27 in the virtual world of Second Life. The event provides networking and business development opportunities for people who currently work in virtual worlds, those who want to explore the possibilities, or those who just want to take advantage of professional opportunities without leaving the office.


B2P is seeking expert speakers to present to an audience of business people with a range of knowledge and experience. Attendees represent non-profit, governmental, educational, and private sectors and organizations of all sizes.

Presenters should not limit themselves to virtual world-specific topics and are encouraged to be creative in their subjects but clear and concise in their delivery.

 

Speaker applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. Pacific Time on March 15.

B2P Hosts Green Business Expo PDF Print E-mail

cop15_logo_imgBeta Business Park will give entrepreneurs a chance to show their environmentally friendly wares in Second Life when it hosts the green business portion of the Copenhagen Expo, which runs in conjunction with the United Nations Conference on Climate Change in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The Copenhagen Expo, lead by Peter Lundquist (Paolo Rousselot in SL) will feature live streaming of events from Copenhagen with question and answer sessions organized by OneClimate.net, and exhibits in several locations around Second Life. The U.N. conference runs Dec. 7-14,with the goal of trying to stabilize the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere to prevent catastrophic climate changes.

Applications for climate-friendly business exhibitors at are being taken through Dec. 1. But space is limited. The expo will be open from Dec. 7-18.

The explosion in the number of web-related media outlets has brought a dramatic increase in interview opportunities for businesses, but dealing with the media can be a challenge. Glaser, whose New York-based Glaser Media LLC helps corporate clients ranging from Sun Microsystems to Nestle fine-tune their media message, gave emerging virtual entrepreneurs a crash-course in modern public relations.

Conference 2009: Doug Thompson On the "Ecosystem of Enterprise" PDF Print E-mail

B2P-Fall-Conference_Dusan-WriterDoug Thompson (Dusan Writer) kicked off Beta Business Park's 2009 "Leadership in Business" Conference with a lively discussion on building value for real-world businesses looking to enter the virtual world.

Thompson, CEO of Remedy Communications and the driving force behind Metanomics.net, told the audience that he found Second Life by accident.

A longtime fan of The Sims game, he was looking for a release date for Spore when he stumbled upon Philip Rosedale's new project. At first, he saw it as "a really cool version of the Sims," but later realized it was a "transformational" event in his life and his career.

B2P-Fall-Conference_Nicolo-AnthonyWhen Paul D'Ambrosio (Nicolo Anthony) partnered with Second Life's Deaf Republic in hosting a virtual installation of the 19th Century deaf portrait artist John Brewster's work, he had no idea what a wild ride it would turn out to be.

Deaf Republic built a beautiful sim based on Brewster's Maine home, complete with a floating gallery space devoted to some of his portraits. But one day, D'Ambrosio checked in on the sim and found he had a new virtual neighbor -- a brothel -- forcing him to build a high wall around the house. Then, radical deaf culturalists began to complain about what they saw as a non-deaf incursion in their community. Eventually, the owner who had donated the gallery space was forced to sell the sim.
